Northern Arc/Burgess Hill Action Group Newsletter
Your support is needed for a public meeting - 7:00pm 1st October 2012
Thank you for recently signing our e-petition.
Here’s an update on the campaign so far, what the next steps are and how you can help.
So far we have established that the Northern Arc development is not forming part of the Neighbourhood Plan for Burgess Hill nor Ansty & Staplefield Parish Council. It is considered a ‘strategic development’ and is therefore part of the MSDC District Plan which was passed on 27th June and will be ratified in 2014. At that point an ‘inspector’ will be appointed to assess the ‘Plan’ against various criteria. As a group we are aiming to influence the inspector’s assessment.
In response to the many comments and feedback received via the website, the objectives of our campaign have evolved and the campaign group has recognised that its name does not now truly reflect its overall strategy. It has therefore been decided to re-name the campaign to the Burgess Hill Action Group. Our website and email addresses are therefore changing to:
The old email and website addresses will continue to work too.
The objectives of the group are now:
1. To stop the over development of Burgess Hill and its immediate surrounding areas by ensuring that there is a fair allocation of housing that is properly planned;
2. Minimising the number of houses to be built in Burgess Hill;
Did you know that currently Burgess Hill has been allocated 70% of the new houses for the whole of Mid Sussex?
3. Campaigning to save 115 hectares of open countryside.
That’s 161 football pitches, currently providing vital food production i.e. lamb and oats, and sports facilities!
The proposals for significant housing developments in Burgess Hill will affect your everyday life from getting your children into your preferred school, booking a doctor’s appointment or queuing in traffic to get to work. So get involved in whatever way you can.
The Leader of Burgess Hill Town Council, Councillor Barrett-Miles, has pledged to attend a public meeting where the residents of Burgess Hill will have the opportunity to show their strength of feeling about developments in the town, including the Northern Arc. The meeting will be held on Monday 1st October 2012 at 7pm in The Martlets, Sheldrake Suite, Civic Way, Burgess Hill, West Sussex, RH15 9NN.
We already have more than 660 signatures, and rising, but in order to show the strength of feeling amongst the community, we need local people to attend this meeting.
If you can provide support in one or more of the following ways, please make contact with us and become part of the Campaign Supporters Network.
Attending the public meeting with Cllr Barrett-Miles
Putting up posters on your property
Providing expertise in relevant areas
Enlisting support from friends and relatives who might not have seen the campaign
If we all pull together as a community we can make a difference and have a positive impact on the way that Burgess Hill grows for the good of everyone. If you don’t get involved you could end up living in just another large, faceless town, without the charm and character of Burgess Hill. So will you pledge your support?
Burgess Hill desperately needs your support. You are receiving this email because you signed our e-petition against the destruction of so much of our countryside and it's replacement by high volume, high-density housing which we simply don't require.
We need you to continue to stand up for what is right, even in the face of such daunting opposition. As a united community we stand a much better chance of negotiating our fair share of new housing. If however you feel that you can no longer support us, then we of course respect your decision and you may from future newsletters. Thank you for your support.
